Vita

Klaus Hesse (born in Elberfeld) studied Photography and Typography at Bergische Universität Wuppertal. After his graduation he worked as an art director in Hamburg, Munich and Düsseldorf. Together with Christine Hesse he founded Hesse Design in Düsseldorf in 1988, and in Berlin in 2001. Hesse Design is the brain behind the countless corporate designs of reputable German companies. In 2004 specialist media lauded Hesse Design as Germany’s most creative design firm. In 2006 Klaus Hesse won the “Kieler Woche” design competition.

In 1993, Klaus Hesse was appointed Professor for Communications Design in Dortmund, and in 1998 at Essen University. He has held a Chair at HfG Offenbach since 1999. In 2011, the School of Art (formerly Department of Visual Communications) elected him Dean. For many years now he has had regular teaching assignments at universities in China, Australia and South Africa. He co-initiated »11 Designers« (2003), the »1st Graphic Design Biennale Germany China« (2010) and has been Editor-in-Chief of »sushi« magazine since 1998. Klaus Hesse has won more than 200 international awards and is a member of the Type Directors Club of New York (TDC).
