The first institutional one man show in central Europe by the internationally sought-after artist John Gerrard in the Kunsthalle Darmstadt (April 26 – October 11) promises to be a highlight of the kickoff to the B3 Parcours 2015. John Gerrard (born in Dublin, Ireland in 1974) is well-known for his elaborate animations that he generates as real-time graphics with the help of games engines after research trips as well as thorough text and image research. The exhibition “Exercise” presents a series of pieces produced 2011-2014, addressing the so-called military-industrial complex with the background of high-tech wars and global medialization since the 1980s. At second glance, it also focuses on exercising body and soul in a meditative sense. The exhibition is a cooperation with the Borusan Contemporary in Istanbul and the B3 of the Moving Image.

The second iteration of the B3 Biennial of the Moving Image will take place in Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region in autumn 2015 under the guiding theme: Expanded Senses: ART BODY COMMUNICATION. The goal of the festival, which started in 2013, is to create a broad alliance for the moving image. In doing so, the Biennial acts in an interdisciplinary way and transcends genres, offering an international platform for the discourse and networking of makers of film and television, artists, designers, scholars, technology providers, industry participants, and up-and-coming talents.
