Talk: FUKT Magazine

Drawing and the Natural World by Bjørn Hegardt

For more than twenty-five years, FUKT Magazine has been dedicated to contemporary drawing, exploring one central theme each year. Founded and edited by Bjørn Hegardt together with designer Ariane Spanier, the magazine connects artists and ideas from around the world and has become an independent platform for drawing in all its forms.

In this talk, Hegardt will speak about the history and process behind FUKT, from its beginnings as a self-published zine to an internationally recognised publication. He will then present The Nature Issue (No. 22), which looks at drawing in relation to the natural world. How do artists respond to a world that is changing faster than we can draw it? How can a line describe a landscape in flux, or a species on the edge of disappearance?

The issue brings together artists who capture nature from different perspectives and reflects on how drawing can deepen our connection to the environment while confronting its fragility. The talk will include insights from the editorial process and stories behind the works featured in The Nature Issue, followed by a conversation with students about drawing, ecology, and independent publishing today.
