Design Equity – Videoconference

Long considered peripheral, topics like gender, cultural differences, and equity are now central to rethinking design’s role and impact globally. The latest issue of the DESIGNABILITIES Design Research Journal brings together diverse voices from across the world to examine how design intersects with issues of fairness, systemic inequality, and pluriversality. From critiques of traditional design historiography and gender-biased forensic practices to explorations of queer masculinities and participatory methods in marginalized communities, the DESIGNABILITIES special issue DESIGN EQUITY spans a wide range of research and perspectives. On the 23rd of January 2025, some of the contributors will delve into nuanced distinctions between equity and equality, as well as the broader implications of cultural and epistemological diversity in design, and open the discussion to all those who are interested.
