Lies About

Eflyer liesabout b

The show takes its title from a phrase of one of the exhibiting artists, who calls his portfolio CV »lies about myself«. It seemed interesting to transfer that idea from written language to images. It’s not about lies as a destructive tool or a means of destabilisation and it‘s also not about conceptualising lies as a form of protest or interpreting them as a psychological phenomenom. It is more about context. Starting with the hypothesis that pictures are lying, what does that actually mean? A basic approach is that we need to take time to look at images, objects, space; visual, performative, theatrical modes of art. To describe what we see and try to understand how it is made, as well as how it is framed by institutional discourse. It means discussing with others how they see or do not see what is represented, and what is criticised or left to stand. In LIES ABOUT, the exhibiting artists share this common interest.

With works by Max Geisler (HfG-Alumnus) and Yana Tsegay (HfG-Student).
