  • In geschlossenen Innenräumen gilt weiterhin: Lüften Sie in regelmäßigen Abständen.

  • Distanz halten - Halten Sie bitte mind.

Corona-Update 11.03.2021

The first tentative Corona relaxations at the federal and state levels, as well as the progress of the vaccination campaign, give hope for further relaxations. Nevertheless, we would like to remind you that the university's Corona regulations communicated in January will remain in effect until at least the end of March. We hope that the situation will be such that we can make relaxations for the summer semester. Therefore: take care of each other, keep your distance and wear masks in the university buildings.

An overview of the measures

The university buildings including the Geleitsstraße are open for limited student use of the studios or workshops: students in their pre- or diploma or with special projects can use the rooms in consultation with their professors and teachers, taking into account the specified maximum occupancy and hygiene measures.

The set-up and dismantling of (pre-) diploma exams and preparations for the MAK exhibition as well as other HfG-related activities of the teaching areas outside the HfG are possible in a group size of up to a maximum of 6 persons (incl. teacher(s)) and must be registered with the President's Office. Attendance lists must be kept and all hygiene measures must be observed.

Excursions and exhibitions in the customs office can unfortunately not take place under the given circumstances.

Library circulation (borrowing and returning items) is possible. The library is open Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and can be visited on Thursdays and Fridays by appointment. Unfortunately, it is not possible to search for books on the shelves independently or to work in the library.

Opening hours of the HfG buildings

  • Main campus: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. - 6:45 p.m.
  • Geleitstrasse: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.
  • The Mensa remains closed

Digital teaching/examinations/aid funds

Dear students,
we would like to announce ourselves with this newsletter before Easter once again with an intermediate information status. Many developments are still in flux. Therefore we ask for your understanding that we cannot provide you with more detailed information.

Start of the lecture period

Teaching at the HfG will start on 20 April 2020 with a digital teaching programme. Presence teaching, even in small groups, is not possible for the time being. It is not yet clear when or in what form classroom teaching will begin again.

Digital teaching

In recent weeks, a task force has been working on identifying suitable tools for digital teaching: these are Mattermost (as team software) and BigBlueButton (as a web conferencing system). These will be installed this week on a server at the HfG and we can start the test phase. At the same time, all teachers are currently updating their offer and the updates will be incorporated into the course catalogues. Today we assume that we will be able to provide you with your individual access and tutorials for the digital platforms after Easter until April 15th and that the event links will be implemented in the course catalogues. We ask for your understanding in case of technical delays.
At this point we would like to emphasize once again that we take digital teaching seriously and that the services acquired in this form will be credited. However, your personal possibilities to follow virtual teaching will be different. You should be able to use the teaching as much as possible, but not have to. We are working at state and federal level to ensure that this does not put you at a disadvantage when it comes to counting the semesters you have studied and your entitlement to BAföG benefits. At the same time, we also work internally at the HfG on regulations that are as accommodating as possible. Should problems arise, it is important to contact the respective lecturer/department to find individual solutions.

Examinations

Examinations should be carried out as far as they can be carried out under the conditions of the Robert Koch Institute. This also applies to our diploma examinations. The examination for the intermediate diploma in the art department has already been postponed to April 30. As things stand at present, both departments are considering postponing the diploma examinations in design and art. We will now mainly ask the diploma students concerned. However, it is already certain that the diploma examinations in both departments will take place in the summer semester by July at the latest. Further details can be communicated until the beginning of lectures on April 20.

Aid fund of the friends of the hfg e.v.

The Corona crisis hits the creative and cultural sector particularly hard. The art and design students of the HfG Offenbach are also strongly affected. Therefore, our supporters association freunde der hfg has, in coordination with the HfG, initiated the fundraising campaign #hfghelps. The freunde start with an immediate aid of 3.000 Euro and hope that the amount will increase quickly through donations. Under www.hfg-offenbach.de/hfghelps their all information to the Kampagen and the request for immediate assistance.

All information about the HfG in the Corona crisis can be found on the website www.hfg-offenbach.de/corona. Please also pay attention to the FAQ, which is constantly updated. If you have specific questions, please contact the persons mentioned there.

We know that this special semester means additional work and effort for you and for everyone involved in teaching at the HfG. The feedback we have received so far from our teachers indicates a high degree of willingness to engage in this common task. We ask you to show this willingness and a little calmness at the start!
We wish you Happy Easter Days and hope you will continue to get through the Corona period in good health.

Guidelines of the Hesse State Ministry for Higher Education, Research and the Arts for the summer semester 2020: Joint letter of the Minister and the Presidents of the Universities

Dear students, dear teachers, dear university employees,

The exceptional circumstances in which we currently find ourselves due to the spread of the corona virus face our universities with very special challenges. The members of the universities are tackling these challenges with extraordinary commitment. On the one hand, there is science and university medicine, which is making an invaluable contribution to the health of all of us. The volunteers in medical care, public authorities and social initiatives are holding our society together during these difficult days.

On the other hand, it is also about coping with this crisis on a day-to-day basis at all levels of the universities and the willingness to look for new solutions and to help tackle it. Our respect goes out to the commitment of students, teachers, administrative and technical staff, artists and scientists. We thank you for the mutual trust, of which so much is needed especially in these times. It is our task to create reliable framework conditions that provide security for all parties involved, but also allow sufficient freedom to react to individual particularities locally.

That is why we are announcing guidelines that mark our common path for the upcoming summer semester today. We want to create clarity, but at the same time we must remain flexible in order to be able to respond quickly to current developments.

We are aware that there are many open questions that cannot be answered at present. Together with the federal government and other federal states, we are making every effort to work out solutions as quickly as possible and will communicate them transparently.

1. We take new paths

Higher education thrives on the exchange between people. Since the current situation affects this very core, the upcoming summer semester will not be an ordinary one. Together we are focusing on flexibility in the organization of teaching, studies and examinations. Teaching and research will take place in forms that meet epidemiological requirements. This means above all: with provisionally limited attendance and new formats. Our common goal is that as far as possible all those who want to complete the semester should be able to do so.

2. We get started together

On April 20, teaching at the universities of the state of Hesse will start with digital services. This also applies in many other federal states. We are thrilled to see how many new digital offerings and additional solutions have already been developed within the universities during the last weeks. Depending on official orders, attendance events might take place again during the semester. In Hesse, we have jointly decided to flexibly postpone the end of the lecture period of the summer semester. We will also take into account a recovery period and the family situation during school summer holidays in Hesse. We are going to decide on specific dates soon, depending on individual circumstances.

3. No one should be left behind

Students who are unable to accomplish any or all of the planned courses due to the consequences of the Covid 19 pandemic should not suffer any disadvantages. This applies for example with regard to regulations that require a normal programme length. The Science Ministers of the federal states will lobby the federal government to ensure that flexible regulations are found for BAföG, child benefit, health insurance, etc. which take into account the realities of student life in times of the Covid 19 pandemic.

4. We make an effort

Together we want to make as many and as high quality offers as possible despite the restrictions. The unusual formats demand great adaptation efforts from everyone. Teachers in particular, but also administrative and technical staff are challenged to make their contribution to these new formats. It also requires students to be willing to engage in these new formats with confidence and commitment. We are very grateful for the efforts that have already been made. We will continue to support you. There are also changes beyond teaching: Regarding the libraries, adjustments are to be made to ensure lending operations and digital services are expanded. Since there are more free rooms in the universities, some of the examinations that were cancelled in recent weeks can now be hold in a larger area with the necessary physical distance during the summer semester. Research will also be continued with all possible efforts. In particular, we support young academics and artists and are committed to ensuring that this group also does not suffer any disadvantages from the current situation. Accordingly, we are lobbying at the federal level for an amendment to the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German law governing the duration of research contracts) and for appropriate exemptions for third-party funding.

5. We keep an eye on the next step

The postponement of the summer semester and the Abitur examinations in several federal states will also have an impact on the winter semester 2020/2021. We have agreed at federal level that we will find consistent solutions. They are intended to meet the needs of students who need lecture-free periods for recreation, work or practical work, as well as those of new freshmen who expect a reliable admission procedure and aptitude tests at the art academies and a smooth start of their studies. We currently assume that the lectures of the winter semester will start on November 1st

02.04.2020: Corona – HfG helps

Dear students,

we are all shocked and concerned about the current situation of the pandemic and hope that you are doing well, according to circumstances, and that you and your families are healthy. Many things are also in a process regarding our HfG, many things are not clarified and we have to come to decisions and results in steps. With this newsletter I would like to inform you about an interim status. We are currently working in constant coordination with the ministry and the German Rectors' Conference on how the examinations can be held, the summer semester can start and the admissions can be organized.

What is already clear today is that we are sticking to our plans to start the lecture period on 20 April 2020. This can of course only take place in digital form. We are all called upon to adapt during this phase and to see the alternative teaching formats as a challenge and a field of experimentation. We are currently working flat out to test and set up the appropriate tools for this.

Please be assured that this special summer semester will not be a lost or non-semester. No one should suffer any disadvantages, especially with regard to student status, but above all we want to ensure that teaching continues, initially without physical presence. Hence this request: I am firmly convinced that art and design can make important contributions to society in the current crisis. I would therefore like to personally call upon and motivate you to deal with the situation creatively, as has already happened - for example in the works linked to Instagram. In any case, please keep us informed about your projects. Inform your professors / lecturers / workshop leaders. Let's use the upcoming semester for such projects. I am sure we will find ways to realize many of your ideas and projects together.

We know that the current situation is existentially threatening for many of you, as many orders and work opportunities have been lost at short notice. In coordination with the Friends of the HfG, we have been planning in the last few days to set up an aid fund for HfG students to which you can apply for one-time financial support at short notice. Of course, the students' participation in the allocation of this fund is intended. We will keep you informed about the exact form this will take in the next few days.

Please also use our homepage as an information platform. Here the FAQ will be updated continuously.

All the best for the future and stay healthy!

The leporello was sent on Monday, March 23rd, 2020 to the address stored in the student administration. Should you not receive the documents within this week, please contact studieninfo@hfg-offenbach.de. Please always make sure that your contact details are correct. You can find them at eCampus.hfg-offenbach.de.

18 March 2020: Further measures

All measures shall apply immediately until 20 April 2020, unless otherwise specified.

dear HfG-members,

with our newsletter we regularly inform you about measures and current developments regarding the coronavirus. We also ask you to consider all measures communicated so far (see below).

The corona pandemic is a difficult situation for all of us. But only by working together will we be able to slow down the chain of infection - and thus save lives. Solidarity is called for - and that means that we have to adapt our everyday lives in a way never seen before. The containment of social contacts also means for the HfG that there will have to be restrictions, postponements and cancellations. We ask for your understanding at this point.

But we are still here for you! Instead of personal contacts and consultations, we are now sending you e-mails that keep us fully operational!
As always, the contact persons at the HfG are available by e-mail for further questions and any need for coordination.

16 March 2020: Update on limiting the corona risk

Dear members of the HfG,

the Presidium of the HfG has decided to implement further measures to limit the corona risk By means of simple hygiene rules combined with the consistent reduction of social contacts in the university sector that are at risk of infection, we want to protect students, staff and guests as well as possible from infection and slow down the spread of the infection.

In the following, you will find updated information and measures, some of which we will concretize or update as the situation changes. We will keep you up to date.

Start of lectures

The start of the attendance courses in the summer semester is initially postponed until 20 April 2020 and students are requested to visit the university during normal opening hours Mo.-Fr. from 8-18h until then only in absolutely necessary cases. Outside of these opening hours the university is not accessible.

examinations

Examinations for students will continue to take place - under special hygiene and safety measures. Details will be announced shortly.

Counselling services

For the time being, these will basically only take place digitally or by telephone.

Events with an audience

The HfG will initially cancel all attendance events at the HfG until April 20. If possible, attendance offers are to be replaced or postponed by digital offers.

Library/PC-Pools/Workshops

University PC-Pools and workshops as well as the reference area of the library will be closed until April 20, 2020. Exceptions are made for employees and students in examination situations in compliance with the protection recommendations of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). Details on this will also be announced shortly.

University Sports/Events in the right-hand chapel

All University Sports events and events in the right-hand chapel will be cancelled with immediate effect.

Work organization

Research and administrative operations will be maintained as far as possible. Decisions on home office and leave of absence will be made in consultation with superiors and the Human Resources Department, taking into account the risks involved for regular operations. Employees who belong to a risk group (see RKI) should only be employed in the home office. If this is not possible, priority should be given to reducing overtime or taking advantage of the possibilities offered by the trust-based working hours before taking time off.

Closure of schools/nurses etc. Persons affected

If daycare and school closures have been ordered by the authorities, you can work from home if possible in coordination with your direct superior and the human resources department. If this is not possible, you can reduce overtime, take advantage of the possibilities of confidential working hours or take leave. A 3-day leave of absence in accordance with § 29 TV-H and - in exceptional cases - unpaid leave of absence can be applied for. The same applies to the care of a close relative in need of care (SGB XI, Hessian Administrative Procedure Act) in a day care facility if this closes due to infection protection measures because of the corona virus. A corresponding proof of closure must be submitted, but can be submitted subsequently.

Business trips

Business trips to risk areas are no longer eligible for approval. Business trips to risk areas that have already been approved are hereby considered revoked. Business trips to other areas can only be approved for compelling reasons after consultation with the respective superior.

Domestic quarantine

All employees who have returned or are returning from a trip to a risk area must maintain a 14-day domestic quarantine, informing the Human Resources Department and their supervisor(s) immediately. An analogous quarantine obligation also applies to students returning or returning from risk areas. If you notice symptoms in yourself or family members, please contact your family doctor.

13 March 2020: Lecture start postponed

Dear members of the HfG,

the coronavirus epidemic has led to the fact that the state of Hesse, due to its great dynamics, has decided on far-reaching measures in a cabinet meeting today, which also affect all colleges and universities in the state.

According to the state's decision, the start of lectures will be postponed uniformly across the state and thus also at the HfG Offenbach until April 20, 2020

Furthermore we have to cancel all internal and external events, conferences, exhibitions planned at the HfG until further notice.

The research, administration and library operations will be maintained in accordance with the current risk assessment.

The main focus of the measures is to reduce social contacts within the university in order to slow down the spread of the coronavirus.

The university management is in constant and close contact with the management of the other Hessian universities as well as with the state government and also carries out a risk assessment on an ongoing basis.

The Hessian Ministry of Science and Art (HMWK) is also currently working on a key issues paper on the coronavirus, which will be made available to the universities in a timely manner. On the basis of this paper, we will make decisions regarding further measures and inform you about them.

Please note once again: Travel to risk areas should be avoided. At present, no permission can be granted for business trips to these areas.

The Robert Koch Institute has listed the current risk areas under this link. If you have stayed in one of the risk areas within the past 14 days or have had contact with a corona patient, please note the following, even if you do not feel any symptoms of illness:

  • If possible, stay at home for 14 days (incubation period) after returning from the risk area or having contact with patients. Please contact the staff immediately by phone or email.
  • If you should experience acute respiratory symptoms of any degree with or without fever, please inform the responsible public health department immediately and, after making an appointment by telephone, seek medical assistance (e.g. medical on-call service: 116 117), especially if you have been travelling in one of the risk areas.
