HfG student wins German Short Film Award

HfG student Brenda Lien was awarded the German Short Film Prize 2018 in the category »Experimental film with a running time of less than 30 minutes« for her film »Call of Comfort«.
»Call of Comfort« was created as a minor diploma in the field of film/video at the HfG Offenbach and was supervised by Prof. Rotraut Pape. It is the third part of a trilogy about various popular internet video genres and takes over the aesthetics of ASMR videos. With these films Brenda Lien asks questions about the popularity of Internet videos, their significance for our culture and last but not least about the effects of consumption on our society. The jury statement on the German Short Film Award states that Brenda Lien's "»visionary look into our near future« promises »nothing good« and yet it is »a pleasurable warning to all those who do not yet believe that it is already too late for the human being as we knew him«.
The German Short Film Award is the highest endowed award for short film in Germany. Each nomination is already worth 15,000 euros. The Gold Short Film Award is worth 30,000 euros each, with the nomination premium credited. The special prize is endowed with 20,000 euros. The prize money must be used for a new short film or film of artistic standing or for its project preparation.
