In the second large excursion 2014 embarked on by the Product Design Department students in their third year of study went to Vienna. In the last week of September the 30-strong group spent four days in thie Austrian capital. Participants visited various locations and highlights of the Vienna Design Week 2014.

Thomas Geisler, design curator of MAK Österreichisches Museum für angewandte Kunst, gave a tour of the excellent exhibition MAK DESIGNLABOR, which was comparable in nature and quality to Rem Kohlhaas' "Elements of Architecture" at this year's Biennale in Venice. There were also visits to designers Thomas and Simone Feichtner. The two expounded on their approach in their studio in the hip 7th (design) district. Another highlight was the Design Award Show by NWW Neue Wiener Werkstätten in the Kursalon. Here the students could cultivate contacts with designerns, journalists, manufacturers – and also to Viennese society. There were also countless sights and a city tour exploring current and historiical design aspects with Prof. em. Dr. Burghart Schmidt. Prof. Frank Zebner, Dean of Product Design was in charge of the trip. The next one will likely be to the London Design Festival in 2015.
