»Making Heimat« exhibition at Deutsches Architekturmuseum (DAM)

Offenbach’s contribution to the German Pavilion in Venice
At the Venice International Architecture Exhibition the show entitled »Making Heimat« presented Offenbach as an outstanding example of an arrival city. Realized by Deutsches Architekturmuseum (DAM) in Frankfurt (Dir. Peter Cachola Schmal, Oliver Elser, Anna Scheuermann), an expanded version of the exhibition is now on display at DAM (March 4 –September 10, 2017). The urbanist Prof. Kai Vöckler from HfG acted as consultant, and among other things, together with the HfG alumni Jessica Schäfer and Loimi Brautmann, served as project manager for the Offenbach contribution. At DAM Prof. Kai Vöckler presents studies that examine Offenbach in greater detail, revealing for example the surprisingly low crime rate in what is ethnically a very heterogeneous city.
The exhibition responded to the fact that in 2015 more than one million refugees arrived in Germany. It enquires of the conditions that need to be in place in an arrival city, in order for refugees to become immigrants. Under the title “Offenbach is almost all right”, Offenbach is presented as an outstanding example.
