Robert Johnson Theory 72
Oliver Hafenbauer
Urban Planning
What does it mean to have been responsible for the musical planning and programming of an internationally renowned and successful club for ten years and to be a resident there yourself? Probably more meticulous work, much less glam than you might think from the outside. To what extent does the building of a team of confidants, artists, DJs and musicians continue into and beyond the local scene, over the years and unpredictable challenges? How do you position yourself to the changes in club culture and its business, where do you swim with and where against the current?
In this Robert Johnson theory, Oliver Hafenbauer and Patrick Raddatz also talk about the parallels between club booking and urban planning. Enriched with numerous facts and details from his practice, Oliver offers a unique look behind the scenes of Robert Johnson's booking.
Since the 2000s, Oliver Hafenbauer has been known as a versatile DJ, organizer and activist. His involvement in and for the local scene brought him to the attention of Robert Johnson, who soon relies not only on his residency but also on his work in the office, where he has since been responsible for booking the club and looking after the in-house label Live At Robert Johnson. Besides his manifold activities as a networker in and around the scene, Oliver started his own label Die Orakel in 2013, and besides his standing he also expanded his colleagues as internationally sought-after DJs and acts.

In cooperation with Heiner Blum and Patrick Raddatz from the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach, Robert Johnson presents theory in a casual sequence to prominent, expert guests - sound specialists, musicians, authors, DJs - with lectures on club culture, production and reception of electronic music. The events take place two hours before the normal opening of the club and then flow smoothly into the club night. Admission is free of charge.
