Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ästhetik (German Society for Aesthetics) is a non-profit registered association. It currently has around 400 members.
The society seeks to promote and coordinate aesthetics matters in Germany; it is not, however, committed to a specific aesthetic tradition or philosophical school of thought, but rather has a broad understanding of aesthetics in art, media and culture and so on. Every three years the society’s board organizes the National Congress for Aesthetics. This congress has a double function: It both serves members as a forum, and communicates to the public the social and scientific importance of aesthetics. In addition, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ästhetik organizes and supports conferences, congresses and series of lectures conceived and organized by its members. For the next three years ( i.e., from 2015 to 2018) Prof. Dr. Juliane Rebentisch, who teaches Philosophy/Aesthetics at the HfG Offenbach, has assumed the presidency of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ästhetik. In all probability the next congress of the Society will take place in April 2018 at HfG Offenbach.
