German Design Award for HfG alumnus

HfG graduate Benjamin Würkner won the Newcomer category at this year’s German Design Award ceremony, beating more than 120 nominated young designers. The Award is one of the most prestigious in the design world.

Benjamin Würkner graduated last year but one from HfG Offenbach with a degree project entitled “Fiber Spider”, which was supervised by Markus Holzbach, Professor of Visualisation and Materialisation at HfG and head of the Institute of Material Design. Benjamin Würkner has already won numerous awards for “Fiber Spider”, including an “Honorable Mention” (2nd place) in the Student category of the Materialica Award, and the Lucky Strike Junior Designer Award 2016 bestowed by the Raymond Loewy Foundation. In his project, which was inspired by bionics, he addresses in particular generative processes, moving between the poles of material, form, and structure. Würkner is co-founder of the studio Spacekitchen, where he works in the fields of product design and architecture.

The German Design Council has bestowed the renowned German Design Award in several categories annually since 2012. It honors innovative products and projects, as well as their manufacturers and designers, who are pioneers in the German and international design landscape.
