Susanne Pfeffer appointed honorary professor

Susanne Pfeffer, Director of the Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt, has been appointed Honorary Professor in the Department of Art with effect from 1 January 2019. She will teach in the field of exhibition and mediation of contemporary art. Prof. Bernd Kracke, President of the HfG Offenbach, is very pleased with the appointment: "Curating, conceptualizing, networking, exhibiting and realizing are topics that are highly relevant for students of the HfG during their studies. We are delighted that Susanne Pfeffer, an internationally renowned curator and exhibition organizer, will enrich the HfG's range of courses in these fields.

Susanne Pfeffer (* 1973) is an art historian and curator.

Since January 2018 Susanne Pfeffer has been director of the Museum für Moderne Kunst Frankfurt am Main, which she reopened in October 2018 with the solo exhibitions of Cady Noland and Marianna Simnett as well as the group exhibition Weil ich nunmal hier lebe. Previously, Susanne Pfeffer directed the Fridericianum in Kassel, where she showed widely acclaimed group exhibitions such as Inhuman (2015), nature after nature (2014) and Speculations on Anonymous Materials (2013) as well as retrospectives on the work of Tetsumi Kudo (2016), Marcel Broodthaers (2015) and Paul Sharits (2014). Previously, she was chief curator of KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin (2007-2012) for six years and curator and consultant of MoMA PS1 in New York. From 2004 to 2006 she was director of the Künstlerhaus in Bremen.

At the 57th International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia (2017) she showed Anne Imhof in the German Pavilion, which won the Golden Lion for Best Country Contribution; in 2015 she curated the Swiss Pavilion with a solo presentation of Pamela Rosenkranz.

Susanne Pfeffer has realized highly acclaimed solo exhibitions and retrospectives by artists including Absalon, Kenneth Anger, Joe Coleman, Cyprien Gaillard, Emily Jacir, Sergej Jensen, Renata Lucas, and Wael Shawky. In addition to thematic exhibitions such as Seeing is believing and You Killed Me First. The Cinema of Transgression, she curated experimental group exhibitions based on new productions, such as ... 5 minutes later or ONE ON ONE. As guest curator Susanne Pfeffer has worked internationally at the São Paulo Biennale, the Lyon Biennale, the Tel Aviv Art Museum, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Museum für Moderne Kunst Warschau and Museion Bozen.

Susanne Pfeffer is the editor of numerous artist monographs and exhibition catalogues. For her exhibition Kenneth Anger at MoMA PS1 she was awarded by AICA USA in 2009 and for the exhibition Inhuman she received the ART Curator Award in 2016.
